PORSCHE 911 997 ENGINE REBUILD
These Porsche 911 997 engines suffer from the cylinder bores going oval which results in the pistons scoring the nikasil plated liners ,causing a ticking noise similar to the sound of a noisy hydraulic.
We can offer the below service when rebuilding the engine to prevent future occurrence :-
To machine and fit steel liners with a top hat design which ensures extra durability, and to include new pistons during the full engine rebuild would prevent any future issues, as its a well known fact these engines commonly suffer with the cylinders going oval causing scoring to the bores. This is eliminated once these liners and pistons are fitted.
When rebuilding these Porsche 911 997 engines the below parts are also replaced:-
Main bearings, big end bearings, trust bearings, piston rings, all chains and tensioners, all guides / rails, all seals and gaskets.
Machining and relining, using 6 x new steel top hat liners and to include the pinning of the IMS shaft (helps prevent future IMS failures) and to overhaul the cylinder heads, which includes pressure testing, refacing, new stem seals and the valves re cut.
All the above £6495+VAT, with a one year warranty(engine only).
If you take advantage of our fitting service £7495 +VAT, you not only get all the above, but also new service items ie :-
oil filter and housing, NGK spark plugs, air filter, oil / air separator, low coolant thermostat, water pump and new exhaust clamps are added.
This also comes with a two years parts and labour warranty.
Machining / drilling and inserts for exhaust studs on the cylinder heads are also included as they normally shear off.
IMS (intermediate shaft bearing) is checked for any play & gears pinned to stop them from slipping in the future.
What usually happens is the intermediate shaft bearing fails. This causes the teeth on the intermediate shaft, (which runs the timing chain to both camshafts on the head) to move, causing the chain to slacken and put the timing out. This in turn usually bends the valves in the head and can damage the pistons or even the cylinder head when the valves snap. Without regular recommended oil and filter changes, the oil can break down and cause the intermediate shaft bearing to fail.
The solution for longer life for these Porsche 911 997 engines is more frequent oil changes using the correct Porsche recommended oil.
We always change the air/oil separator when refitting one of our rebuilt engines.

WHAT WE DO WHEN REBUILDING PORSCHE 911 997 ENGINES
Our Porsche 911 997 engine rebuilds include new piston rings, crank / main bearings, con rod / big end bearings, new hydraulics for both heads, new gaskets, seals, chains, tensioners and all guides.
The engine is stripped to bare components and put into a high pressure cylindrical wash at high temperature with cleansing chemicals,
this removes all carbon deposits and debris from previous failures. From this stage the cylinder bores are checked for cracks etc.
Some may need new liners this would be at an extra cost.
The Pistons are checked and rings are then changed, connecting rods are then checked & re-honed & the crankshaft is then checked.
After this the main and big end bearing shells are replaced, the oil pump reconditioned and scavenger pumps checked.
Cylinder heads are stripped down and checked for wear, cracks and for trueness then pressure tested and the face machined.
Valve guides are then checked for wear and replaced as necessary after this valve seats are machined and valve guides are then checked for wear and replaced as necessary.
Refaced valves are re cut & the head then leak tested. The camshafts are then checked for wear and replaced as necessary.
All engines and gearboxes sold by Dal Jones Automotive are on exchange basis of serviceable units and surcharges may apply.
Any work undertaken and not completed will be charged at our hourly labour rate £85+VAT.
